Hi everyone! My name is Yvonne and I’m the new Arts and Crafts Coordinator for camp. I’m so excited to return to The Heart. I used to be not only a camper, but also a Heart Lite! This will be my 8th term at The Heart. I currently live in Florida, right next to the mouse, but I’m originally from a small town in Texas. I’m a teacher, curriculum developer, graphic designer and an avid crafter.
Yvonne is also super awesome and runs marathons!!!!
My goal this year is to make arts and crafts something truly special for everyone! Here’s a sneak peak of some of the arts and crafts classes we’ll be offering this summer.
Arts and Crafts Class is a general art class where you get to create lots of different types of crafts. My favorite project for this class is a fun flower string art project. This will be a great finished project that you can send home to your family. Have you ever seen a flip book before? We’ll also be making our very own funny face flip book. This project will surely make us all laugh, as we try out each others’ books. There are 9 different projects we’ll be working on this summer!
Sewing Class will have a lot of neat projects this summer. We’ll be sewing felt monster stuffed animals and even making an anime-type bear purse. If you are a first time sewer, don’t worry. We will begin with some basic sewing techniques and then you’ll be on your way to being a great hand-sewer.
Do you like to doodle? Then, Drawing and Painting Class might be the class for you. We’ll be painting with bubbles, painting salt, splatter painting, and creating our own type of paint brushes with all sorts of crazy items. Sounds fun, doesn’t it?
A new class that will be offered this year is Crocheting Class. We’ll start with the basics by creating beaded crocheted bracelets. Then, we’ll move on to create some unicorn tail barrettes. We’ll also create our own handbags. These will all make great mementos from your time at camp.

I’m most excited about Nature Crafts Class. If you are wondering exacting what is nature crafts class, it’s basically a crafts class using lots of items that we find in nature like flowers, twigs and rocks. I picked out some really fun and unusual projects for this class. We will create flower fairies, twig stars, ladybug leaves and more. We’ll even have a nature craft scavenger hunt during one of the classes.
I’m sure you like wearing jewelry, but have you ever created your own jewelry? In Jewelry Class, we’ll be making our own washi tape bracelets, button rainbow bracelets, polymer clay necklaces and more. The final project for this class is a jewelry box to hold all of your new treasures.
We’ll also be having Pottery Class and Leatherworks Class. These are both great classes to get your creative juices flowing! I’m also working on some seminar classes too. It’s going to be a great summer and I can’t wait to see you in an arts and crafts class or two or three!
