Awesome Authentic Role Models!

There’s always that person we look up to that seems to be perfect. When we learn that they are not, sometimes the shattered illusion is upsetting. But other times, it’s relieving to know that no one is perfect, so you don’t have to worry about being perfect either. At camp, we have amazing authentic role models for our campers to look up to!

All of our counselors have admirable traits. Whether she was on war canoe at the age of ten, or if she is incredibly patient with everyone around her, there is something inspiring about each and every one of them. But the best part about them is that they are real and they care about their campers. It’s no good looking up to someone that doesn’t even know you’re alive. But at camp, kids have role models who can help them navigate their feelings.

Social media’s influence on young girls’ self perception is damaging. The stage is set for envy and comparison, both of which are thieves of joy. But at camp, girls see young women who are working hard, acting with compassion, and speaking from places of patient wisdom. Our counselors value character and the impact they have on their campers.

The Heart believes we all live richer lives when we have genuine people to look up to. Campers are so blessed to have loving, supportive ladies look after them. Oftentimes when camp ends and we all go our separate ways, we never really leave one another. The camper resides in her counselor’s heart, just as the counselor resides in her camper’s.
