Daily Update - T-Birds Vespers
Today we took our cabin photos and activity portraits for our 2B campers! Just a reminder, all campers will go home with an 8x10 of their cabin photo. Activity portraits will be available for purchase on closing day!
As we mentioned in an earlier update, walking or sweet tortoise Scampers has been a camper favorite activity. Today he went on a few walks! The girls found out he’s a little faster than they originally thought!
At worship down by the water, we discussed our 8 traits and why they are such important traits to remember.
It was a very fitting topic as later in the day we announced our Top Ten Juniors.
They are: Birdie C, Ivy C, Josie G, Maria G, Hattie H, Archer J, Trista L, Adele L, Billye M, Zoe N
At siesta today we held a mandatory sleep! Everyone really appreciated the extra sleep!
We held a few afternoon activities including archery, pickleball, arts and crafts, and court action!
There was an extended vespers practice as the Thunderbirds prepared to present theirs tonight!
After dinner, the T-birds did just that! They put on a wonderful performance for us all!
What a great way to end a Sunday at camp!
Daily Update - Sr/Tn Swim Meet
Camper Keni W accomplished an incredible feat by earning her American Archer achievement!
Today, we conducted the ever-popular tire changing class in lifeskills, and it's truly heartwarming to hear former campers, who are now counselors, share how this class equipped them with the skills to change a tire confidently!
In the afternoon, we hosted our highly anticipated final swim meet of the term, "The Senior/Teen Swim Meet."
For tonight's dinner, we treated ourselves to a delightful buffet outdoors, and fortunately, we enjoyed a much-needed respite from the heat just in time. As the girls finished their meal, they excitedly prepared for a movie night on the Tennis Courts. Watching a movie under the starlit sky felt like the perfect way to spend a magical Saturday evening.
Moreover, we celebrated a fantastic group of Sophomores, affectionately known as the "Dirty Dozen," who were awarded the esteemed title of "Poo Crew" for their outstanding efforts as super scoopers at the barn! This hard-earned recognition was thoughtfully conceived by Deen and Kimber, and it's a testament to the incredible dedication of these campers.

Here is the LINK to the sign up form.
Daily Update - Carnival
At lunch the campers were treated to “Barbie” Homemade Ice Cream! Pink in color and a very subtle cherry flavor. We think it was a hit!!!
After siesta Jane met with the campers who are in Volunteer Voices in preparation for our last Sunday Worship service.
After 6th period we held the Jr-Sr Gymkhana. The score was 28-70 in favor of the T-birds!
The camper enjoyed the County Fair Carnival.
With games galore, delicious carnival foods, and a range of exciting activities, the carnival proved to be a smashing success, drawing smiles from all age groups.
The enticing aroma of cotton candy and popcorn wafted through the air, and you could not pass them up.
Campers were in for a treat with an array of games and fun designed just for them. The face painting station was a hit, as young campers lined up eagerly to transform into their favorite characters, animals, and designs. Laughter and giggles filled the air as they proudly showed off their creative makeovers to their friends.
Of course, the dunking booth added a splash of hilarity to the festivities. The sponsors and fire lighters were in the hot seat, and many people took their turns to dunk them!
Daily Update - Covert Ops
It’s Christmas at Camp!!!
Campers woke up to Christmas carols and trinkets from Santa!
At lunch Santa came to visit and passed out peppermints to all the campers! Santa even posed for photos with any camper who wanted one!
They held a synchronized swimming competition today in the Senior division. 1st place went to Agarita Attic, 2nd place went to Cactus Flower Cottage, and 3rd place went to Buckeye Bunk.
Tonights activity is Covert Ops. We held an extended sing along in the dining hall to allow time for it to get darker outside.
This is an all camp favorite night activity. The campers get together with their big sisters and then attempt to run across camp gathering tickets. The catch is that there are counselors hidden all around camp ready to stop the campers on their journey. Another fun surprise is that the heart lites are hidden and if they are found they are either extra negative or positive points. The winner of tonight's activity will be announced tomorrow!
Daily Update - Mountain Top
After 6th period we had our Sisterhood Officer photos and All-Sisterhood Panos. These photos will be available for purchase on closing day!
Today we announced our new split term officers:
T-Birds: Minion Lydia M, Sophomore Laurel C, Junior Elise B, and Senior Elysse W.
Arrows: Minion Sadie W, Sophomore Olivia M, Junior Whitney B
The brother sister picnic was held at Camp Stewart today! The girls were so excited to get to see their siblings at Camp Stewart!
The LITes named the Server O’ the Week to be Ivy C!
Tonight’s evening activity is Mountain Top! This Mountain Top is special because it is our warm fuzzy tribe hill. For warm fuzzy, the Firelighters read the warm fuzzy story and pass out warm fuzzies that signify giving someone joy, love, and happiness.
After Mountain Top, our campers came down from the hills to cheer on the front lawn. We announced our 2nd set of Sisters O’ the Week recipients. They are: Minion JJ K, Sophomore Maggie S Junior Maria G, Senior Lily H, and Teen Callie Y, LITe Sterling M and Counselor Zsofia F.
Daily Update - Movie Night
Today we held our sisterhood sorting ceremony this morning at the heart! The new campers were welcomed into their sisterhoods!
Our campers went through their TTS classes, because of course while it was Sunday in the regular world, at HOH it was SATURDAY!
Whew, we are going to be so happy to get back to Monday on Monday!
The clouds knocked off the heat! And allowed for our girls to get a break from the relentlessly warm weather.
We held our Senior/Teen swim meet after 6th period. The crossed arrows were victorious with a score of 160 to 134.
Thanks to a small mess up in the office, the campers were treated to pizza AGAIN! SO it was pizza on the tennis courts for movie night! The girls watched the spinoff of “High School Musical”, “Sharpey’s Fabulous Adventure. And it was a great night had by all!
Daily Update - Hello 2B/Division Night
Don’t ask people at Heart O’ the Hills what today is, because we are all confused as heck! We had “faux Sunday” on Friday, so that the new arrivals on Saturday afternoon wouldn’t have to “chill” (if we can even call it that when it’s been so blazing hot!) on their first full day here. So on Saturday we held MWF activities, and today was “pseudo Saturday” with TTS schedule. Are you as muddled now as we are?
Sisterhoods gathered separately to elect Way Showers. Way Shower is the only office that has a two-week term, so Split Term campers can run for it. Winners will be announced on Mountain Tops tomorrow night.
Tonight’s activity was division night. The campers participated in activities based on their age division around camp!
For our adorable S'Minions, we had a fun event called "Teddy Bear Storytime on the Front Lawn." The little ones gather together with their beloved teddy bears for a fun and interactive storytelling session outdoors.
Our enthusiastic Juniors are having a blast with their recent outing to Jane's for some delicious ice cream.
The Seniors are in for an action-packed evening with the "Karaoke/Dance Party Night" and a "Tye Dye Night" in the Village! They can sing their hearts out and show off their dance moves while also getting creative with colorful tie-dye creations. It promises to be an unforgettable time for these girls.
Lastly, our Teens are embarking on a special off-camp dinner at the "Southern Sky Music Cafe." They'll be treated to a fantastic dinner while enjoying music and a unique atmosphere. It's an opportunity for them to experience something unique and create lasting bonds with their peers.
Daily Update - Teen-led Worship/Good-bye 2A
We like to keep things interesting at camp! So today we were on a Sunday camp schedule. So the girls got a nice relaxing morning to finish packing and spend the last morning with their 1A friends.
Our day started out with a loss of power around 8 am due to an accident near by,
Worship was called by sending out “town criers” to let everyone know it was time to start.
Today was a special worship service led by our Teen campers. Each girl had a special message to share with their fellow campers.
After the girls finished lunch and ice cream was passed out, we held an Awards Ceremony for our departing Split A campers.
Each girl received an 8x10 cabin photo, an Award O’ Merit (some girls got two or even three), and if they passed a swim, riflery, archery, tennis, horseback or canoeing level, they would have received those medals or patches. If they participated in Volunteer Voices, they would have received a patch for that.
Each Sisterhood named special award winners.
The minute we had the last spoonful of homemade ice cream after lunch, it was time to bid farewell to our Split Termers. So many re-enrolled for 2024! It makes us glad knowing that we will see them again.
After dinner, the Crossed Arrows presented their vespers to the camp! They did a really great job!
Daily Update - Stewart Dance
Today was the birthday of Trista and Amairani!
The dining hall was booming at lunch with excitement about the Stewart Dance. Stories of campers planning their outfits and hair, or what music they hoped to hear filled the dining hall.
Because the first bus load of campers would be heading this was at 7:00PM, we shortened our 5th and 6th period classes. With activities ending at 5:30, this gave campers plenty of time to get ready before the buffet opened at 6:00pm for dinner!
The Stewart Dance is a long standing tradition between both of the camps in order to promote new friendships and a chance for both camps to explore new opportunities! Some of you may not know this but Camp Stewart is actually our brother camp. They are both run by the same family, and that is why we do events together. Because of this connection, we have always loved the opportunities we get to have events with each other. It is always a blast anytime the two camps come together, and we are looking forward to Camp Stewart joining us at The Heart tonight for the dance! There will be plenty of laughs, cookies, fun, and dance moves for everyone!
After a few quick runs, all of the campers made it from Camp Stewart for the Dance. So many of our campers went all out in dressing up! The music was upbeat and fun, and the girls danced the night away!
One little camper commented “there’s too much boys. I only want one or two”.
Daily Update - Mission Impossible
Today was the 9th birthday of Adelaide B.
We love a Sunday at camp!
Everyone sleeps-in an extra hour, and breakfast is a buffet that the girls can attend in their pajamas. The morning is leisurely (ish), until ….
At 9, the campers started heading to the waterfront by cabin to take their cabin photos and activity portraits! We will give each camper an 8x10 copy of their cabin photo before they leave camp! The activity portraits will be for sale at closing!
At 10:30 the Volunteer Voices gather to warm up at Cypress Hollow to help lead worship in song, and today those voices were accompanied by many guitars! It was a big group of voices and accompaniment!
At 11, the all-faith worship service began. Former camper, Donyelle Green Seals, spoke to the campers about choices they make through out their lives.
For lunch, we enjoyed the traditional Heart/Stewart Southern Sunday lunch of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and homemade rolls! And we had homemade vanilla ice cream.
Siesta was extend a half hour, after which campers could choose to participate in many different activities which we call “Dabbles”.
As soon as the pizza delivery arrived, the campers gathered for flag lowering and “pizza cheers”. The cheers are a competition between divisions to determine who gets to go first in line. The minions got to eat first!!!!
Counselor vespers was tonight! The staff has been practicing for this night all of summer. All of the campers watched as the counselors danced, sang to their heart's content, and brought out their goofy sides. The campers loved seeing a new side of their counselors and it definitely brought the camp together. We can not wait to see what the sisterhoods sing to us on the next Sunday.
A Word About Split Term Closing
Can't believe it's nearly time to say good-bye to our Split Term campers!
Here is our plan: We will have lunch at 1, our usual time, and there in the dining hall we will call out their names and give each a packet and a tepee photo. So that will be the extent of our ceremonies.
After lunch is dismissed, they will make their way to meet you at the Office and Grand Patio area (beside the Village). We will have their luggage there for you to load up, and there will be cold water too. We also have a freezer with Blue Bell novelties that we are happy to share!
In the Village we will have a display of the campers activity portraits for you to view and purchase if you wish, and we will be offering "bribery" to all the campers who sign up for next summer before leaving. Subtle, I know! It's a system set up many summers ago--and we've used it ever since.

Daily Update - Overnight
The morning started off like any other typical day at camp. However, as the afternoon siesta arrived, the girls busied themselves with packing and preparing for their overnight adventure.
In the past, organizing overnight campouts had always been a major challenge. It was difficult to coordinate activities when counselors were frequently absent on the trail every Friday. But then, a brilliant idea emerged. Someone proposed a simple solution: why not invest in a large quantity of ice chests and Igloo coolers and have everyone camp out on the same evening? It made perfect sense. This decision would not only make things easier for the hardworking kitchen staff but also streamline the activity schedules. With plenty of sites available, different areas could be designated for each group.
The Minions and Sophomores set up camp at the Opening Ceremony grounds, while the Juniors headed to Mountain Lion Maw, near the starting point of Caballo Creek. The Seniors found their spot across the river from the canoe dock, nestled by the Treehouse. As for the Teens, they ventured approximately 20 miles away to Mo Ranch. So the main campground is eerily empty. I know the controlled chaos will be back soon enough, and we are thankful for that.
Daily Update - Mountain Top
Campers made their way through their MWF classes today, and many of the campers are really starting to make advancements in their activity areas!
Server of the week was announced to be Archer J!
Siesta has been extended the last few days due to the heat!
Teens are working hard preparing to lead worship this Friday!
Tonight was the much awaited Big Sis/Lil Sis reveal on Mountain Top. Lil’ Sisters have been getting little clues and gifts since the beginning of the term, and the mystery was FINALLY revealed last night at a really fun Mountain Top.
After coming off their hills and reuniting as the Heart Sisterhood, we announce Sisters O’ the Week. These are the girls who have done their best all week to bring out their own best. Girls recognized were Minion Keatley B, Sophomore Regina S, Junior Adele L, Senior Maite C , Teen Judith M, LITe Valeria S, and Counselor Daniela J.

We had an unexpected cool morning today! Hooray for cloud coverage! Some people were even convinced it would rain!
In lifeskills today, the seniors practiced their line dancing skills! They even taught Jane a few new ones!
We had mandatory sleep during siesta! It’s been a long week and the campers could all really use the rest!
After 6th period, we held our first swim meet of the term! The juniors each swam in a race ranging from a noodle race to butterfly strokes! In the end, the t-birds took home the victory!
After a yummy eat out at the ark, the campers gathered for a movie on the tennis courts! After getting a snack and soda, the girls settled into their sleeping bags to enjoy a movie under the stars! The movie tonight was Hannah Montana!
Looking forward to our first official Sunday of the term tomorrow!
A quick word from Jane:
There has been quite a bit of drama stemming from a young staff member talking about suicide – spurring a lot of side conversations – and then a lot of rumors, even a rumor about a camper attempting suicide here. Not so. Logically some hysteria ensued. The situation is now under control, and should not cause further problems.

Daily Update - Field Day
Beach Party Field Day was today! To kick things off, our campers gathered for a lively pajama pep rally, cheering with their sisterhoods to kick off the day's energy and build anticipation for the upcoming events.
At flag, theheart was filled with pink flamingos. Our campers went all out, showcasing a delightful array of Hawaiian shirts, stylish swim suits with trendy cover-ups, and we even had the pleasure of witnessing a lobster and a jellyfish among the attendees!
After a delicious breakfast, the campers regrouped with their sisterhoods for some additional spirited cheers, injecting an extra dose of excitement into their already high-spirited demeanor. Following a quick stretch and warmup, the eagerly anticipated events finally commenced! The campers enthusiastically participated in a series of thrilling competitions, including the exhilarating Sponge Relay, the adrenaline-pumping Floatie Slip and Slide Race, and an exciting obstacle course that tested their agility and determination.
One particularly beloved activity among our campers is the Jello feeding extravaganza, where the Minion campers delightfully feed their sisterhood's Firelighter with wobbly, jiggly Jello! The sheer joy and amusement radiated from the Minions. This event ended in a tie!
Today was the birthday of camper Sarah D and head staff member Aoife P! Both received delicious cakes at lunch!
After a well-deserved extended siesta, the campers split into their respective divisions for some spirited games. The Minions engaged in thrilling Parachute Battles, the sophomores showcased their skills in an energetic game of dodgeball, the Juniors demonstrated their prowess in the exciting Cage Ball Soccer, our Seniors engaged in a water kickball match, and the Teens displayed their dodgeball finesse. The camaraderie and friendly competition among the girls in their divisions and sisterhoods created an unforgettable experience filled with laughter and bonding.
At the eagerly awaited announcement, we recognized the High Point Campers who had earned the most points for their sisterhood in each division. A heartfelt congratulations to Brooklyn P (Minion), Hazel H (Sophomore), Birdie C and Sofie D (Junior), Bailee G and BB Y (Senior), and Rhea H (Teen).
The Crossed Arrow sisterhood emerged victorious in this exhilarating field day.
As the day progressed into the evening, the campers eagerly anticipated Seminar Night, a delightful activity where they had the opportunity to choose an activity of their preference. A diverse range of engaging activities were on offer, including captivating Native American Hoop Dancing, artistic Canvas Painting, thrilling Archery Games, vibrant Fiesta celebrations, intricate Cross Stitch - Canvas, entertaining Card Games, crafty creation of Necklaces from Rags, artistic Cookie Decorating, the art of making Friendship Bracelets, creative Leatherworks, a soothing Spa Night, imaginative Chalk Art, the joy of molding Modeling Clay Animals, engaging Board Games, and even the chance to learn Cooking with Cindy! The campers are undoubtedly in for a fantastic night filled with laughter, creativity, and unforgettable experiences.

The grooviest trend of all time made a grand comeback during the Juniors' Tie-Dye Night at camp. Led by the creative duo, Kelly Calcote and Gill Estes, the juniors spent a memorable evening exploring their artistic side. Participants brought their own garments to transform into vibrant masterpieces. For those who didn't have one, a hand-me-down shirt was available.
The seniors unleashed their inner fashionistas and participated in an exciting fashion challenge inspired by the popular TV show, Project Runway. With only tape and newspaper, they showcased their creativity and design skills, creating stunning ensembles that wowed the audience. It was a night filled with fun and laughter, and we might have a few future fashion icons.
The teens lit up the night with their electrifying Karaoke and Dance Party extravaganza. Embracing their inner pop stars, they belted out their favorite tunes, showcasing their vocal talents and dazzling dance moves. Laughter, cheers, and applause filled the air as the teens sang and danced, creating an unforgettable night of pure entertainment.
Minions went to ice cream at Jane’s house and enjoy so much ice cream with all the yummy toppings. At the close of the party, the International Space Station passed overhead, visible for a full seven minutes. And the clouds parted, and most of us enjoyed glimpsing that together. Daily Update - Officer Elections
It was the first rotation through the MWF schedule. As all of the try-outs have been concluded, at the end of day, all the necessary (and some just wanted) schedule changes were arranged.
The aspiring war canoe team members have been trying out yesterday and today, and finally the teams were announced. This is such a big deal because the race at Closing is so exciting. Results are below.
Our quadrille team is Brynne B, Chloe B, Allison G, and Morgan L.
Tonight the Sisterhoods conducted officer elections, with each candidate giving campaign speeches, and secret balloting. The girls dressed up to add some spice, T-birds in pjs and the Arrows in a beach theme. Runoffs (if necessary) will be held in brief meetings tomorrow, and results will be announced tomorrow evening.
One of the things that I love about the way we do elections it to allow all Fire Lighter candidates who are not elected to have a second shot. We conduct the Fire Lighter elections on the first full day of camp so that all the top girls in the Sisterhood can run, then those who aren’t elected can still run for an office the next day. And I love the secret balloting because each camper can vote her own conscience without the peer pressure that a show of hands can cause.

Daily Update - Mountain Top
Can it be that we’ve only had a single full day of camp? The calendar says it’s so, but it feels so packed with experiences and interactions that it feels so much longer.
Although it was Sunday outside our gates, it was a “Tuesday” in here. We wanted to go ahead and launch into regular activities, so we followed the TTS schedule (so that tomorrow we can resume with MWF on an actual MWF day). There was the usual amount of people not knowing where to go when, but overall, the kids were elated to be moving through their day, doing new and exciting things, and even accomplishing new skills already.
About an hour before Zippity Doo Da sounded to wake up the rest of the camp, the aspiring Top Elite Riders met to try out for the team. It’s the Top Elite girls who present the Quadrille at the end of the term. We will announce those results shortly!
Today was the 15th birthday of Molly R.
We also had 10 girls try out for the Advanced English Riding class that takes place under the watchful coaching of Jane’s brother, Jeepers Ragsdale at Camp Stewart. All were placed, I’ll announce the results when I have all of them!
In every swim class, the girls were evaluated and placed into their Red Cross swim levels.
The Sisterhoods met today to elect their Fire Lighters, which is the highest office. There were 5 Arrow candidates and one T-Bird candidate. Results were announced tonight on the first Mountain Top meetings.
SO our new Fire Lighters are Riley B for the T-Birds and Emily V for the Crossed Arrows. Very exciting; I know they will be great role models and leaders.
Failed to mention yesterday that it was the birthday of Sabine A. She received a beautiful cake at supper.

Camp is here! From the first moment that your kids set foot here this summer, we’ll be sharing photos and updates. From big events to everyday activities, this is how we’ll share the magic with you.
If you haven’t downloaded the Campanion app and uploaded your camper’s training photo, make sure to do both before the first day of camp.
After you download Campanion, use your CampInTouch Account email address and password to log in on your phone. Once you’ve logged in, you’ll see an option to upload a training photo of your child. This enables the technology to identify your campers and receive notifications whenever they appear in camp photos.
If you’ve already taken these steps, just sit back and enjoy all the amazing moments we’ll share this summer.

Opening Day! The day we love and live for! So excited to meet and welcome new campers and greet so many old friends, too.
Both charter buses left right on time, which is (somewhat) amazing. Hats off to the families who got to the mustering places on schedule.
All the campers got settled into their bunks, and our media team made the rounds to get photos of the campers in their new home-away-from home.
After supper, we held Opening Ceremonies. Jane read the Legend of the Guadalupe, the Sponsors explained to the new campers their importance to the Sisterhoods, and each new girl was called up one by one to draw a bead from the heart-shaped basket. Blue beads signal Sisterhood of the Thunderbird; green means Sisterhood of the Crossed Arrows.

Big thanks to all the camp families who showed us some grace by allowing us to attend the funeral for Bobbie Moore Pfeil today. We were the first to arrive and the last to leave. It was “old home week” for so many former Heart campers, counselors, staff members, and community members of yore. Such a joyful homecoming! I can imagine Miz Bobbie in heaven having the same sort of reunion.
Christie Moore Underhill and Bobbie’s sister Sharon Fontenot O’Neal both presented celebration-of-life memories. It was continuously brought out what a joyful person Miz Bobbie was, and how her “family” extended to so many people across the decades. The minister at St Mark Presbyterian, Rev. Ann Marie Quigley-Swanson, spoke of how Bobbie loved feeding people, and how much she lived out the spirit of the familiar camp song, “Pass It On”. At the end of her meditation, the choir led the congregation through the singing of just one verse of “Pass It On”, which we sing every Sunday after Vespers! The choir—all friends of Bobbie and her second late husband Gerry Pfiel—led and sang a number of pieces, all in beautiful harmony.
SO MANY Heart people were there, I’m almost afraid to list them for fear of omitting someone. We all gathered for a photo, and of course we broke out in a boisterous “Friends We Are”! Among us were (with maiden names for sake of being recognized by fellow campers): Margaret, Christie and Jenny Moore, Kiki O’Neal, Robin Ramsay, Jamee Bartus, Cindy Manley, Julie Kadjar, Diana Smith, Donylle Green, Susan Shelton, Shari Schwinger, Janet Allen, Tina Pacelli, Susie Willmann, of course Carole Rylander, Georgia Griffith and I—plus Laura Wentworth on livestream! Heart-associated gents were Louie Sanchez, Mark Edinburgh, Bill Schaake, David Appleton.
Bobbie’s family, hospitality, love for people was crystal clear.
“Nothing is particularly hard if you break it down into small jobs.”
