War Canoe 2020

War Canoe 2020: The COVID Edition

Here at The Heart we know just how meaningful war canoe is. Puffy paint bars are worn on sleeves as badges of honor and girls try-out for years hoping to earn their spot in the boat. In the midst of new safety protocols and precautions, we’ve done our best to uphold this beloved tradition. So we are proud to present, War Canoe 2020.

Here’s a little more information on what war canoe will look like this summer.

First of all, only Senior and Teen campers may try out for War Canoe 2020. Due to social distancing, there will be one boat per Household. Meaning, 3 boats per tribe first term and 4 boats per tribe second term. The boats will also be smaller. On average, only about 6 girls per boat and 24 girls on the entire War Canoe 2020 team.

There will not be a practice race. For the final race each boat will race within their Household. That means their will be 3 or 4 races. The times of each boat will be averaged to declare the overall winner.

Packages are not allowed this summer. So, you can drop off your camper with gifts. Or, she can make her own gifts at camp! Truly, the best war canoe gifts are heart-felt items such as painted rocks, handmade cards, friendship bracelets, etc.
