A Heart Healthy Atmosphere
Cultivating a healthy atmosphere is more than clean air and clean water. It is the foundation of our H.E.A.R.T.S mission of inspiring well rounded individuals. At camp, girls have the opportunity to lead themselves through a healthy life-style.
We ensure campers not only eat enough, but enough of the right stuff! All of our meals are served with a variety of healthy foods and at breakfast we provide a fruit and yogurt bar. Additionally, during lunch and dinner we provide a soup and salad bar. For snacks, a variety of fruit is always available for campers to grab.
Campers run, play, swim, and much more, giving their bodies the proper exercise they deserve. A key component in mental health, physical activity is central in our programming. Of course, our healthy atmosphere extends beyond our physical self into our mentality.
When we are in secure communities, we feel confident in trying new things and extending ourselves beyond our comfort zones. Every summer we see this with nervous campers that leave home for the first time. Leaping out of the nest, and plunging into a safe and supportive community, these campers learn that they are loved and accepted by people beyond their family.
Healthy atmospheres promote confident self-exploration, which is why many former campers report that they always felt free to be themselves at camp. We strive for each camper to experience a healthy atmosphere, because we believe in the importance of nurturing ourselves and others.
A healthy atmosphere is just the “H” to our H.E.A.R.T.S mission. Keep an eye out for the rest of the H.E.A.R.T.S to be published later this month!
“One of the marvelous things about community is that it enables us to welcome and help people in a way we couldn’t as individuals.” – Jean Vanier
